Everyone's talking about me
It's all good stuff, mostly
Funny, poignant and exhilarating.—Istvan Reviews Pleasantly subversive.—Intermission Magazine Brown has a gift for quirky dialogue, and as a performer she brings a depth and impeccable sense of timing to her line readings. —Glenn Sumi, NOW Magazine Madeleine Brown (who wrote the show) also caught my attention as the strange, homey pyromaniac cousin “Winnie”. She was meek as a mouse but had the comedy chops of a lion. —Mooney on Theatre Madeleine Brown has great poise and a startling ability to convey emotion and suggest a multitude of environments with the subtlest of gestures. Dressed simply and elegantly, she exudes a dignity and warmth that feels simultaneously formal and invitings. Without ever raising her voice or indulging in theatrics, she vividly evokes the gentle sweetness and humour of a sexual encounter, the white-knuckle terror of dealing with a drunk father, and the complex feelings that surface when laying a mother to rest. —Mooney On Theatre A-...Huge kudos to this excellent cast (along with Miranda they include Brown the playwright, Charlin McIsaac and John Wamsley) who whip through jackets and hats, develop discrete, compelling characterizations, and remain consistently very very funny. Brown’s witty script strikes an impressive balance between intelligent critique and madcap fun, developing intriguing characters throughout the lunacy and takedown of the corporatizing of feminism. —My Entertainment World |
Brown is clearly a serious playwright worth watching. She’s also an actor, experience which has clearly enabled her to write dialogue that cooks. She’s in good hands at Here For Now and I look forward to her next outing. —OntarioStage.com Absurdist, bonkers-beautiful comedy/mystery. It takes all your lies and neuroses and hands them back to you. —John Doyle, formerly The Globe & Mail Edgy, quirky and insightful, Brown’s intelligent, darkly funny script plays devil’s advocate on the pyramid scheme sales model, manipulative sales relationships and commercialized feminism...The sharp, entertaining cast is more than up for the challenge, with Brown, McIsaac and Wamsley shifting deftly between multiple hilarious characters. —life with more cowbell NNN...hilarious one-liners and physical comedy. —NOW Magazine Madeleine Brown’s first foray into playwriting reveals a strong sense of how to build a premise and showcase her own strengths as a performer...hilarious moments of defiance and incredulity. —My Entertainment World Madeleine deserves praise for her ability to capture the droopy-eyed, home-schooled outcast. Watching Madeleine is like watching an awkward first-time camp counsellor explain a circle game to unwilling participants. Brown fumbles around with the computer with subdued geekiness. From her slouched shoulders to her overemphasizes jokes, Brown does an amazing job at balancing out the highly emotional characters. --The Theatre Reader |
